Not a Yoghurt Brand | 2010-10-25 23:52 | Written By: by Nick O'Byrne

Last week, on a slow news day in indie music world we were alerted to the fact that a hip lil' Australian electro-pop-freakout ensemble/producer was forced to change their name after being signed to magnificent US label Stones Throw.

Basically, Danino (the yoghurt company) took exception to the fact that sunny and interesting electro music from Australia could have the same name as one of their lead products... a yoghurt rebranded for kiddies.

So Danimals changed their name to Djanimal so as not to anger the trademark police who are worried about the fact that people might accidently buy a limited edition 7" Remix instead of a 6 pack of 150gm yoghurt tubs with strawberry

As Tim Shiel (Fuax Pas) said at on twitter the time... "i guess that puts the kibosh on my new chillwave band "Yoplait Go-Gurt"

The best thing about Djanimals though, apart from the silent "j" is their music. Unique, bringht, listenable experimental pop. We love it.
