Ronit

Someone once told me that Ronit was "too pretty for Triple J".
While the specifics of that statement are absolutely rubbish, I do understand the gist of what was meant. Ronit is a polished performer. She's got a rich jazz infused voice, a charismatic onstage presence and slicker production values than we tend to see in a lot of Australian independent music. Richly arranged pop music that ranges from 90's Garbage (oh Shirley Manson!) to the Goldfrappish through to the Norah Jonesish. There's moments of trascendent beauty and other times where I dedect the jewish klezma of Ronit's heritage amidst the background orchestrations. Her music is fantastic, wide ranging and intriguing but certainly not fashionable enough to fit the mould of Australian music that would have the tastemakers of community radio or Triple J salivating.
This new clip is a quietly atmospheric remix of Hearts Don't Bend. It's quite gorgeous, displays her incredible voice.
Despite the lack of recognition here she's turned heads in the UK and USA. On the back of some serious world-wide industry interest Ronit has just moved to the UK. No doubt we'll hear a lot more from her soon...
