Super Wild Horses

Robert Forster contends in his book "The 10 Rules of Rock & Roll" that the three piece band is the purest form of Rock and Roll. No room for baggage, no room for the excesses of prog rock... a trio lends itself to a no-bullsh*t aesthetic. We're talking punk and DIY garage rock.

Far be it for me to disagree with the legendary Mr. Forster but I must respectfully disagree.

The duo of guitar and drums is taking over as the new pure. We've seen The Fumes, The Mess Hall and DZ in Australia (amongst others) follow in the musical footseps of The White Stripes, The Black Keys and Japandroids oversaeas (amongst others).  TLean and concise rock limited to simple and satisfying music ideas. They also get a bigger cut of the royalty cheque.... clever buggers.

Golden Town by Super Wild Horses is everything I want in garage rock and roll. Frantic drums, frenetic strumming on lo-fi, overdriven and muddy guitar sound  a tender loving sweet melody over the top. Can't wait to hear what else this band has in store for us. They may well become Australia's premier exponents of the purest form of rock and roll.
