Yis

After listening to last week's feature artist SIerra Fin and the unashamed pomp of a live, fully orchestrated album (admirable as it was), we needed omething to blow out the cobwebs, something a little leaner.
Enter, "Yis". further support of Robert Forster's hypothesis that a three piece band is the purest form of rock and roll. Each three minute song on Yis's album Kingdom of Fuzz is replete with crunching riffs, a delicious sense of humour and a vocal delivery that borders on vehemence. There's also a wonderful sense of melody and some sweet organ/synth lines.
Released through Bandcamp (not in stores ladies and gentleman, why bother?). Recorded at A Secret Location (great name for a studio) it should be raw to the bone but there's a glorious sheen to the sound that comes in the form of mastering by Joe Lambert in NYC (responsible for Animal Collective's "Merriweather Post Pavillion", Deerhunter's "Microcastle/Weird Era Cont." and "Halycon Digest"... impressed?).
The more I listen, the more I love it. You can stream the whole album here.
The clip you see above is recorded live at Ding Dong Lounge, a sprawling 'loose but tight' epic called "infin". The nerd in us loves the pedal work at 2:05. The Ian Curtis fan in us loves the vocals and the rock dog in us loves the guitar work.
